About the AFCRC, Inc.

Contemporary Choir is a service of the American Folk Choir Resource Center, Inc. (AFCRC, Inc.), a 501 c 3 nonprofit educational organization.

History

The AFCRC, Inc. was founded in 2000 by Tom Parker, a composer and performer from Alexandria, Virginia.  Mr. Parker has written music, mostly for the Catholic Liturgy, since he was a college student in the mid-sixties and was active in the earliest days of the "Folk Mass".  In the years since its founding, the AFCRC, Inc. has offered many concerts, workshops, and other musical events in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.  At present the AFCRC is not sponsoring any activities but maintains this web site in hopes that its ideas might attract persons interested in pursuing its goals.

Non-Affiliation Statement

The AFCRC, Inc. is an educational organization and is not affiliated with any religious denomination or institution.  Although most contemporary choirs seem to be in churches, we focus on a style of music and how it is performed, rather than on ecclesiastical matters.  For example, when this organization was founded, we noted that there were many publications, web sites, and other resources available for those involved in planning the Catholic Liturgy.  However, there was no organization similar to the American Guild of Organists or the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers which was concerned with the musical aspect.

We make no statements on matters of theology or doctrine and wish to offer materials of interest to those of any - or no - religious affiliation.
