Music Organizations and Resources
The links on this page are offered as a guide to some of the resources
available for contemporary choir musicians. Of course, Contemporary Choir
is not affiliated with any of these organizations or any religious body.
Send suggestions for links to
Choirmaster at
Contemporary Choir. This page is for
associations, etc., not commercial publishers -- to find them, just do a web
search!
- The National Association of Pastoral Musicians: a membership
organization for Catholic Church musicians. For Catholic parish
musicians, membership in this group could be part of your church's music
budget. Website:
www.npm.org. This organization has done much to strengthen the
recognition of music as a vital part of worship.
- The American Guild of Organists (http://www.agohq.org)
OK, this group tends to be kind of down on contemporary music, but they have
a great magazine and their local chapters offer interesting activities for
organists. There is no reason why organists should consider
contemporary choir music a threat -- and if your group has an organist they
should be concerned with improving their skills.
- The American Guild of English Handbell Ringers (http://www.agehr.org).
Handbells are a lot of fun to play and fit in well with contemporary choir
music.
- The Church Music Association of America: a very traditional
organization, but their web site has incredible links of the educational
variety. If you're interested in learning more about Latin Chant,
check this out:
